Pink has no wavelength of its own. It exists only as a mixture — red and blue lit together while green stays low — which is why it looks so different from anything on a rainbow and why displays render it with such intensity. On a panel this is red near maximum, blue high, green held back, and the result on a modern OLED can be almost uncomfortably vivid.
That gap in the green channel is what makes pink useful as a test field. A subpixel stuck on green has nowhere to blend in: it appears as a small bright dot in a field where green is deliberately quiet. Together with a blue screen for red and green faults, a pink field completes a fast sweep of everything a colour test can catch.
A pink or magenta cast over an entire display is a specific and fairly diagnosable symptom: something is eating the green channel. The most common culprit is physical — a damaged or badly seated video cable, or a bent pin on a connector. Unplug both ends, inspect them, plug them back in firmly, and try a different cable before assuming anything worse.
If the cast survives a cable swap, work through the software: reset the display colour profile, check the monitor for a picture mode or colour-temperature setting that has drifted, and update or roll back the graphics driver. Load a plain white screen as a reference — if white renders pink, the fault is in the signal chain or the panel, and no amount of browser adjustment will fix it. A cast that appears only in one application is a colour-management problem in that application instead.
Pink is the backdrop colour of the moment for good reason: it is warm without being aggressive, it separates almost any object cleanly, and it photographs as flattering rather than clinical.
