Why blue is the colour technicians test with

Every pixel on your display is really three subpixels — one red, one green, one blue — mixed to make a colour. A blue screen asks the panel to drive the blue subpixel hard and leave the other two mostly idle. Any pixel that refuses to cooperate has nowhere to hide: a subpixel stuck on red or green lights up as a coloured dot in a field where nothing else is coloured.

That is why a solid blue field is a standard part of a panel check and why repair shops cycle through it. It will not tell you why a pixel is misbehaving, but it will tell you exactly where the problem is and whether it moves. How to run a blue screen test for pixels

Go fullscreen, set brightness to 100%, and sit at your normal viewing distance rather than pressing your nose to the glass. Sweep your eyes slowly across the panel in bands — left to right, then down — and pay attention to the corners, which people usually skip. Mark anything that is not uniform blue.

Then change colour and repeat. A dot that stays bright on blue but vanishes on white is a stuck subpixel. A dot that stays black on white is likely dead. A patch that looks cloudy or lighter near an edge is usually backlight bleed, not a pixel fault at all, and is normal in small amounts on LCD panels. Blue screen versus the blue screen of death

If you searched for "blue screen" after a computer crashed, this is not that. The blue screen of death is a Windows stop error: the kernel hits a fault it cannot recover from, halts everything, and prints a stop code, a sad face, and a QR link on a blue background. The key difference is text — a BSOD always tells you something, this page never does.

If you are actually chasing a crash, the stop code is the thread to pull. NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM points at a disk, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL at a driver, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT at RAM. Boot into Safe Mode, roll back whatever driver you updated most recently, run a memory check, and read the minidump in Event Viewer. A monitor showing solid blue with no text and no boot is a different problem entirely — usually a cable, an input setting, or a failing backlight.

Using blue as ambient and accent light

A screen is a large, diffuse light source, which makes it much softer than a bulb of the same output.
